It is a small program (Digital rights management) that will block you from reproducing the work you downloaded, from copying it or to do whatever the owner doesn’t want you to do.

But, why would you strip this DRM from your Kindle if you haven’t even heard of it so far and you never needed it? Because once in a while something happens with Amazon-Writer relationship, some kind of dispute and Amazon will revoke the ownership of the file (eBook) you had downloaded, and you can do nothing about it. This is one of the possible scenarios.
OK, you downloaded a book, you read it twice and you don’t care if they are going to revoke the ownership; but what about if you downloaded a cook-book, and you are a passionate cook and you don’t want your cook-book to be deleted from your Kindle reader? Also there are some ereader reviews you may need for your college or something similar, and you need to study from them but you can’t since Amazon revoked the ownership. As we can see there are numbers of reasons why you should remove DRM from your Kindle.

First things first; there are programs that you can use and you just might need to do some copy-pasting within directory files inside your PC. If this is something you think you can do, follow these steps. If you’re totally clueless about PC’s please call your geek-friend to do it instead of you, because this will be a mission impossible if you want to do it by yourself.
- If you made it till here this means that you really want to free your Kindle from DRM and that’s why you should first install Kindle on your precious PC
- Once you finished with this installation you should get authorization for your copy of Kindle installed on PC
- Next step is to sync the hardware and “check for new items”
- Download Kindle DRM removal software
- Once you downloaded the software create an input folder for your Kindle books (e.g. my Kindle)
- After this, go to program for DRM removal and “browse” for your Kindle book. Once you found it click “unDrm Directory”. This will lead you to the removal of drm restrictions

Once you finished with this operation you can use programs such as Calibre to switch your eBook from one format to another (Literally from any available format to any available format) . Like this you will be able to read your ebook reader review on any mobile device, not just Kindle.

If you decide to un-Drm your books have in mind that it is not legal to offer those book for downloading or to distribute it in any way, you can use it just for yourself. Beside this, it is important to know that not all programs will work so easy to help you with DRM. Actually majority of programs works perfectly on older versions of Kindle for PC but if you have the newest versions of Kindle you should uninstall it and search for old ones. Those programs for DRM removal do not work because they are not made for the new version of Kindle (Amazon is making updates, to keep the people busy if they want to remove DRM).
